MAM commends government for shifting eid-ul-fitr holiday
Muslim Association of Malawi MAM has commended the Chakwera administration for shifting eid-ul-fitr day holiday from Friday to Monday next week
Initially the holiday was expected to be observed on Friday 14th May which has coincided with Kamuzu day holiday
Speaking at this year’s eid-ul-fitr prayers held at upper stadium in Blantyre national chairman for MAM Sheikh Idrissa Muhammad said the gesture show that the Tonse Alliance Government recognizes and respects Muslims
“The constitution of the country is silent on when the public holidays coincide but when MAM pleaded with government it did not hesitate and declared next week Monday as a public holiday,” Sheikh Muhammad explains
He therefore appealed to Muslims to support the Chakwera government to strengthen development, peace and tranquility in the country
The MAM national chairman donated 600, 000 kwacha to Nikkah and other Islamic functions association NIFA for the operation of the day to day work
