Tanzania’s parliament approves new vice president

Tanzania’s parliament has approved the appointment of finance minister as new vice president

All the 363 Members of Parliament approved the appointment of Dr Phillip Mpango by President Samia Suluhu.

Mpango’s nomination was announced by parliament Speaker ahead of the approval vote and the law makers applauded after his name was mentioned.

He will be sworn in by the chief justice on a date to be announced

Mpango was among two ministers who were re-appointed by former President John Magufuli as he started his second term.
