Water Aid asks government to fulfill manifesto pledge of universal access to WASH

Water Aid has asked government to fulfill its manifesto pledge of achieving universal access to clean water, decent sanitation and good hygiene WASH within 3 years from 2020

In a press release country director of Water Aid Malawi Mercy Masoo said government should institute a well resourced, standalone ministry for water and sanitation

Masoo says this will be a bold step towards positioning the country to better respond to and mitigate impact of pandemics such as covid-19 and meet demands of Malawi’s vision 2063

“There is need to prioritize financing for universal access to WASH in the national budget to ensure that services are available when needed,” Masoo

The Water Aid country director calls for development and enforcement of clear road maps and standards for WASH in health care facilities, schools and public places

According to Masoo her organization has supported various COVID-19 interventions amounting to 232 million kwacha mainly focusing on preventive measures to curb the spread of the pandemic
