CSEC criticizes Ministry-TUM communication model of resolving grievances
Education expert has trashed the communication model being used by ministry of education and Teachers Union of Malawi to resolve teacher’s grievances that have led to a continued stay away.
In an interview after the teachers defied government’s request to return to work on Monday 1 March 2021, Benedicto Kondowe who is also executive director of Civil Society Education Coalition CSEC said the issue at hand is very critical and needs to be treated with urgency.
Kondowe said a round table dialogue is the only way other than using statements as it will only promote misunderstandings.
He said what is happening at the moment is a violation of rights to education of students as such the two parties must reach a compromise as soon as possible.
“As such my his organization has intervened and engaged both parties for continued dialogue,” Kondowe
The teachers stay away commenced on 22nd February after government and TUM failed to reach a consensus regarding the teacher’s risk allowances.
