Government to delink university of Malawi
Government says will proceed to delink University of Malawi UNIMA into three universities namely Malawi University of business and applied sciences MUBAS, Kamuzu University of Health Sciences KUHES and University of Malawi UNIMA.
This comes few weeks after the council of the university announced the halting of the de-linking process
Speaking in an interview, with Radio Islam, Director of Higher Education Dr. Levis Enaya, says the decision has been arrived at a meeting between the university of Malawi Council and vice president Saulos Chilima alongside minister of Justice Titus Mvalo, Attorney General Chikosa Silungwe and officials from the department of Statuary Corporation among others
He says the ministry of education will proceed to gazette the commencement date for the 2019 Acts of parliament in line with section 74 of the constitution.
“The de-linking is a progressive process in increasing access to higher education and improving governance and operational efficiency in public universities in Malawi,” Enaya
Educational activists lead by civil Society Education Coalition had earlier asked government not to stop the de-linking process urging it had already been approved by parliament.
Thereafter Chilima intervened by meeting the council in Lilongwe
