HRDC demands Tonse government to walk the talk in clearing rubble

Human Rights Defenders Coalition HRDC has asked Tonse government to walk the talk in clearing the rubble.

According to a statement released by the human rights body, it has noted with regret the little progress made so far in the fight against corruption.

The organization’s chairperson Gift Trapence and National Coordinator Luke Tembo say  HRDC has received alleged reports of some government profile officials who are threatening MERA and NOCMA to award a contract to their preferred two suppliers whose cost will be more than 50 million dollars.

They further demand the removal of chief secretary to government from the position of board chairperson for NOCMA,EGENCO and Power Market Limited to avoid conflict of interest.

“These can derail commitment to good governance and accountability which president Chakwera should have stepped in and stopped soon after he settled into Kamuzu palace,” Trapence & Tembo

HRDC has also faulted the president’s acceptance of chancellor of university of Malawi a thing the coalition says is a clear sign that the president is not transformative enough.

They have condemned silence of vice president Dr Saulos Chilima and called for consolidation as well as timeline of implementing all Tonse manifestos
