Border markets without fences posing threats of corona virus- MCCCI
Malawi Confederation of chambers of commerce and industry MCCCI has said unfenced markets in border districts are posing threats to business people and customers of contracting corona virus
MCCCI Chief executive officer Chancellor Kaferapanjira said being border district markets people conduct formal and informal businesses with neighbouring countries thereby making them unsafe trading zones
He said this is Mchinji when the chamber handed over personal protective equipments to Mchinji boma market worth over 3 million kwacha
Kaferapanjira said Mchinji Boma market for example is unfenced where everyone business is done without following covid-19 guidelines
“Our recent survey conducted in some border districts across the country revealed that Mchinji boma market is the most affected one where there are no personal protective equipment PPEs to safeguard people from contracting the virus,” Kaferapanjira
On her part councilor for Mkoma ward in Mchinji central constituency Martha Dzanja described the donation as timely saying business operators and customers lack PPE’s due to financial constraints
