Muslims donate to Malawi Prison
As part of Eid ul fitr celebrations Radio Islam Listeners in Mponela, Dowa district Malawi have donated various items to prisoners at Ntchisi prison.
Speaking after the donation secretary of Mponela Radio Islam Listeners Yobe Jabir said they decided to visit the inmates and donate the food items with people who cannot afford to buy basic necessities.
Jabir said the donation is valued at 250, 000 kwacha.
“It important to help one another because Muslims face many challenges in various areas such as prisons and hospitals,” Jabir said.
Therefore he called on people who have the capability to assist others to do so.
Jabir encouraged the prisoners to remember ALLAH every time.
In his remarks one of the officials at Ntchisi prison Ishmael Mkwanda commended Mponela Radio Islam listeners for the donation saying it has come at the right time as prisoners meet several challenges.
“It is the first time in history that a Muslim group has donated items at Ntchisi prison,” Mkwanda disclosed
He said government alone cannot afford to provide the prisoners everything hence more support is needed.
Mkwanda advised Mponela Radio Islam listeners and other well wishers to continuously help the prisoners at Ntchisi prison.
He urged government and all stakeholders to consider Ntchisi prison in various developments because it is left behind in any ways.
One of the prisoners Mussa Alie expressed gratitude to Mponela Radio Islam listeners for the donation.
Alie cited lack of Islamic facilities to perform daily prayers as the major challenge they face at Ntchisi prison.
“Therefore I appeal to Muslim leaders and Islamic organizations to provide them Islamic learning materials and a sheikh who can help them learn Islamic teachings,” Alie said
Ntchisi prison has 20 Muslim prisoners but no sheikh to help them acquire Islamic knowledge.
Among the items Mponela radio Islam listeners donated to prisoners at Ntchisi prison are meat, bags of maize, rice, tooth brushes and soap.
