Government develops national food safety policy
Government has developed national food safety policy which will soon be adopted for implementation
Secretary for health Dr Charles Mwamsambo has disclosed this as Malawi joins international community in commemorating world food safety day
Dr Mwansambo says in recognition that food safety is a shared responsibility the policy development process has involved a wide range of stakeholders to ensure that their views are taken on board
He says the policy addresses key issues affecting food control systems in Malawi
“The 2022 world food safety day theme is “safer food, better health”” Mwansambo
According to secretary for health Malawi has been faced with outbreaks of Cholera and Typhod which are linked to safety of food
Dr Mwansambo says food safety is key to achieving several of the sustainable development goals and contributes to economic prosperity boosting agriculture, market access and tourism
Therefore government calls on stakeholders to promote food safety for better health for all people
