Acting registrar of Industrial relations court has been sentenced over corruption.
Lilongwe magistrate court ordered Brian Katimba to serve a suspended sentence of 30 months for demanding money from two Burundian nationals for transport.
According to public relations officer for Ant corruption bureau Egrita Ndala on 13th March 2014 Katimba received 100, 000 kwacha from the Burundians who were awarded 300,000 kwacha each as compensation for unfair dismissal.
“He was charged with two counts of corrupt practices and abuse of office,” Ndala said
Initially he was sentenced to 20 months for the two counts but the court suspended them considering that he has lost his job as well as career and did not personally benefit since the money was recovered in full.
