Ummahat sisters encourage Muslim women to engage in charity

Ummahat Sisters, a grouping of youthful Muslim women in Malawi has encouraged Muslim women to engage in charity.

The call was made when Ummahat Sisters interacted with orphans at Fatima orphanage center in Chiradzulu district.

Speaking to radio Islam, secretary for Ummahat Sisters Atupele Chilombo said Muslim women should reach out to the needy by adopting orphans in their homes.

“We decided to visit the center with the aim to interact with the orphans after noting that children living in such centres need interaction with other children,” Chilombo explained

She added members of the grouping contributed about 100 thousand towards the initiative.

Chilombo has meanwhile urged fellow Muslim women to help the needy.

Zerina Kateriya Maleki Founder of the centre said there are 20 children most of them girls.

Maleki then commended Ummahat sisters for the visit.

Apart from financial assistance Maleki said would also appreciate a visit by story tellers.

“Fatima orphanage centre was opened in 2011 with three orphans and currently, the centre has 20 orphans” Maleki said

Ummahat sisters started two years ago to inculcate the spirit of charity, Islamic development and social interaction among Muslims.
