Minister of agriculture irrigation and water development has told parliament that she will visit water project at Zalewa trading centre tomorrow after residents wrote her ministry to address the challenge
Responding to a question from Member of Parliament for Neno East Mbilizi says the residents at that busy area in terms of business are indeed struggling to access safe and portable water
Mbilizi says the previous government did not fund the contractor and stopped the project due to limited financial resources
Meanwhile the ministry has recommended that water supply scheme at Hewe should be operated independent of Thazma gravity water supply scheme
Mbilizi was responding to a question from Member of Parliament for Rumphi west who asked the ministry to engage management of Thazma water supply scheme to the system at Hewe water supply scheme
In her response Mbilizi says “the ministry has undergone a technical assessment of the scheme which found that it requires a separate pipeline to increase volume of water supply to address water challenge.”
The Ministry has also recommended that the council revamp Hewe water users association to maintain water supply in the area
Mbilizi says newly commissioned Thazma water supply scheme recently suffered severe vandalism on the transmission pipes by members of the community
Therefore the Minister asked Member of Parliament of the area to assist government in making sure that the community police and Malawi police are alerted on the matter and vandalism must stop
Mbilizi says the ministry is going to repair the damage which will cost 300 million kwacha
On education Minister of education Bright Msaka has accused previous government of failing to construct 250 secondary schools across the country because of corruption
But standing on point of order deputy chief whip Monica Chayangana Muno rejected the accusation saying construction of such schools was a donor funded project
