Malawians hold Solidarity March for Palestinians
Hundreds of Malawians, religious leaders and civil society organizations leaders have hailed a solidarity march for Palestinians who are being killed by Israel
The march organized by Forum for Democracy and Rights Defenders(FDRD) started from Kamuzu Upper stadium through the Masauko Chipembere High-way and back to the stadium at Ginnery corner round-about in Blantyre city.
Speaking during the solidarity March secretary general of Majilisi ulama council of Malawi sheikh Muslim Abas Vinjenje said parties involved should prioritize peaceful dialogue and ensure safety of people.
He said they strongly advocate for an impartial investigation into any potential Human Rights violation or war crimes committed during this conflict.
“The indiscriminate killing and targeting of civilians, including children is a heart-breaking reality that demands immediate attention and intervention by the people who love peace world over”
Vinjenje expressed gratitude to the government of Malawi and the president of the republic Dr Lazarus Chakwera for the good stand demonstrated in the United Nations assembly where Malawi supported for cease-fire in Gaza.
In his remarks, FDRD chairperson, Abdurrahman Shaib Ajasi hailed people for patronizing the event in their large numbers.
“Though Malawi might be regarded as a small country but she is part of the international community and is only imperative that we show our solidarity with the people of Palestine”.
On his part, one of the people who took part in March said they have sent a message that Malawians are concerned with the killings and sufferings of people in Gaza.
“We want other nations, organizations like IMF, United Nations, and Human Watch to intervene and negotiate for a cease-fire in Gaza”
This week spokesperson for the Ministry of Health in Gaza, Ashraf al-Qudra, told Al Jazeera that al-Shifa Hospital is completely out of service, and cannot provide any treatment even to the patients inside the facility, due to constant Israeli attacks.
More than 11,100 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since Oct. 7, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.
