Libya’s Prime Minister Suspends Foreign Minister Over Israeli Meet
Libya’s Prime Minister has suspended his foreign minister after she met Israeli counterpart.
Libya does not recognize Israel, as Tripoli backs Palestinian cause, and the meeting has sparked protests.
As well as suspending Mangoush, Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah referred her for investigation.
The presidential council, which represents Libya’s three provinces, said it was illegal to normalise relations with Israel.
The Speaker’s Office in parliament has accused Mangoush of grand treason and called for an emergency session on Monday.
Israel is trying to build closer ties with more Arab and Muslim-majority countries, such as oil-rich Libya.
