Finance Minister presents 2.84 trillion kwacha 2022/23 budget
Minister of Finance, Sosten Gwengwe has presented the 2022-2023 national budget which has been pegged at 2.84 trillion kwacha.
Presenting the budget in national assembly, Gwengwe, said government has removed the tax on cooking oil and water
He said finance ministry will restructure the debt management policy and salaries of civil servants will be increased upon discussions with civil servants trade union
Gwengwe further said constituency development Fund has been increased to 100 million kwacha per constituency.
Gwengwe also hinted in Affordable Input programme government will be buying fertilizer directly from manufacturers to cut costs
On Malawi Vision 2063, Gwengwe said “government will ensure that resources are allocated based on pillars and enablers.”
Speaking later, executive Director for NPC Dr Thomas Munthali has commended government for aligning the budget to the vision blueprint.
In her reaction, Executive Director for Malawi Economic Justice Network MEJN Bertha Phiri has applauded government for restructuring the public debt management policies.
