UN to end peace-keeping mission in Mali

United Nations plans to end its decade-long peacekeeping mission in Mali on 30th June and withdraw all personnel within six months

According to a draft Security Council resolution proposed the withdrawal of the mission comes after Mali told UN to withdraw its troops without delay.

The text was confirmed by two UN officials and a security expert.

The 15-member Security Council is due to vote on Thursday.

To be adopted, the resolution needs at least nine votes in favour and no vetoes by Russia, China, United States, Britain or France.

Russia, with its soldiers operating in Mali and China, Moscow’s ally, have long been seen as skeptical of UN peacekeeping mission.
