Umodzi Party backs MEC Chair

As pressure continues to mount on Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) over the lost but found Biometric Voter Registration kit last week, Umodzi Party has dismissed calls for resignation of the MEC chair.

Prof Chisi said the right person to resign is the Chief Elections Officer for negligence and incompetence.

Chisi wondered why MEC is using commissioners to clarify fears of possible rigging and the missing of the machine saying they are not technocrats hence not in a proper position to explain the matter at hand.

He has since asked MEC to summon the Vice President to explain his claims of possible voter rigging in the next year’s elections.
