Minister of Finance, Economic Planning and Decentralisation, Joseph Mwanamvekha has expressed satisfaction with the findings of the 2024 Malawi Demographic and Health Survey (MDHS) report.
The report, which was developed by the National Statistical Office (NSO) in partnership with the Ministry of Health and other development partners, provides essential data to support evidence-based planning, policy development, and resource allocation in Malawi.
Speaking during the launch of MDHS report in Lilongwe on Tuesday 3 February, 2026, Manamvekha cited improvements in immunisation coverage, reduced maternal mortality rates, and progress in other vital health indicators that support targeted national development planning as critical in national development.
“The report delivered by National Statistical Office is very informative and will help government in planning and creating policies that are evidence based,” said Mwanamvekha.
NSO Commissioner of Statistics, Shelton Kanyanda, said the report indicates significant progress in fertility rates, maternal health services, and malaria reduction.
However, he acknowledged that challenges remain, particularly in child nutrition and socioeconomic inequalities.
Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Health, Charles Chilambula, said the findings will help address human resource shortages in the health sector, which is expected to improve healthcare service delivery across the country.
