TAM Bemoans Low Haulage Rate
Transporters Association of Malawi (TAM) has called upon government to Address Low Haulage rate.
A statement from the association signed by its chairperson, Frank Banda says local transporters have been grappling with persistent low haulage rates per ton, per kilometer, with some rates dropping to as low as MK40 particularly in the Private Sector.
Banda says, the situation is not only threatening livelihoods of their members but also hampers overall growth and development of transport industry in Malawi.
He says though government adjusted the rate from k65 to k150 per ton, per kilometer it is sad that most operators within the private sector have not adjusted and are still in the range of K40 to k65.
