Stop mob justice – Activist

One human rights activist in the country has asked Malawians to stop taking the law into their own hands.

Speaking in an interview with Radio Islam, Robert Mkwezalamba, of the Centre for Human Consultative Committee, said it is sad that the country is turning into lawlessness and violent as witnessed in the growing number of mob justice happening across the country.

Mkwezalamba cited the murder incident in Neno district on witchcraft allegations and hacking of others in Lilongwe due to land disagreements, among others.

He said communities have the responsibility of bringing to book suspected criminals so that the law should take its course.

However, Mkezalamba said lack of awareness regarding laws and rights might also be some of the contributing factor to the vice.
