Stop giving cash handouts to street connected children, Malawians urged.
Yohane Banda Foundation has urged Malawians to stop giving cash handouts to street connected children.
Executive director of the organization Kondwani Mzomala said cash handouts are a major contributing factor towards increased figures of street connected kids.
He said the tendency is greatly affecting their upbringing.
According to previous research, Blantyre has over 1700 street connected kids of which 80 percent have homes.
As such Mzomara said his organization has organized a big walk to source funds for supporting street connected kids and their families in a bid to move them out of the streets.
He said the fundraiser which will take place on Saturday will start off at Mpingwe to Zomba and wants to raise k3 million.
“we would like to raise awareness towards the negative impact that giving cash handout to street children has on their livelihood”,
and also we would like to raise enough money to start our initiative called economic empowerment of street connected families and finding long lasting solutions that will prevent street kids from increasing in the streets”.
