State house warns employees against using president’s name in fraudulent acts
State house has warned its employees to stop using president Chakwera’s name to their advantage.
This is contained in a leaked internal memorandum to state residences staff dated 15th February, signed by chief of staff- for state residences Prince Kapondamgaga.
According to Kapondamgaga, it has come to his attention that some staff at state house are soliciting and receiving money from perspective bidders of public procurement in exchange of a promise to influence the awarding of contracts and using the name of state house unlawfully to acquire public goods.
The chief of staff- for state residences has since warned the staff that the conduct is unprofessional and constitutes the gross indiscipline, adding that “anyone found to be engaging in these types of misconduct will be subject to disciplinary action and immediate dismissal.”
Meanwhile, Human Rights Defenders Coalition has said the state house should take action against corrupt employees.
According to HRDC chairperson, Gift Trapence, they believe that, in writing the warning letter, the State House and the President knows who the culprits are, as such, they should be named and be brought to book.
“We feel that the state house has not done enough in the fight against corruption,” Trapence
The human rights body has since applauded communities of Area 49 and New Shire who took it upon themselves to question and stopped the land encroacher who started construction on a public land that was supposed to serve Malawians
Therefore the coalition has urged all communities to keep a watchful eye over public officers who would want to abuse their authority through criminal transactions.
