Sidik Mia family donates covid preventive materials to political parties
The Sidik Mia Family has donated sewing machines, rolls of cloths and other materials to political parties’ leaders from southern region as one way of fighting against deadly Covid 19 pandemic
Honorable Iryias Karim who is nephew to late Muhammed Sidik Mia represented the family during the donation and said it was made in honor of the late Sidik Mia who succumbed to the pandemic and in line with Islamic teachings of doing good works that benefit mankind
According to Karim, “over 45, 000 needy people who cannot afford face masks will benefit from re-usable face masks
The leaders who have benefited from the donations include Members of Parliament, Ward Councillors and Shadow MP’s from various constituencies as well as wards.”
Speaking as Guest of Honour during the handover ceremony at Mia residence in Blantyre, Moses Kumkuyu who is MCP National Campaign Director, said the donations come as a response to the recent appeal made by Malawi president Dr Lazarus Chakwera who called upon Malawians to render assistance in the fight against Covid 19.
Kumkuyu said currently Malawi is down pressed with the pandemic hence commended the Mia family for the timely donations.
“It was necessary for the party to equip political leaders with Covid 19 preventive materials as many of the people they lead in their different areas can hardly afford to buy a face mask,” emphasised Kumkuyu
On donating to leaders of other political parties, Kumkuyu who is also Presidential Advisor on Chiefs stressed that Covid 19 does not limit itself to any party colors hence deemed it necessary to include those from other parties.
The donation includes 50 sewing machines, 100 rolls of cloth and other materials for sewing process and was donated in presence of Honourable Abida Mia.
