SADC Calls on US, EU to List Sanctions on Zimbabwe

Southern African Development Community (SADC) Heads of Mission Accredited to Malawi and the Malawi Government has called upon the immediate lifting of sanctions imposed upon Zimbabwe by the United States of America and the European Union.

Speaking During a Press Briefing that was held at the Zimbabwe Embassy at City Center in Lilongwe, High Commissioner of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Jorge Davide Gune, said the objectives of the theme of the 39th SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government held in Tanzania in August 2019, cannot be achieved without every African nation’s participation and distinct distribution.

“That is why SADC during this year’s summit adopted a decision calling for the immediate lifting of the Sanctions for Zimbabwe to Re-engage with the international community as well as participate freely in World trade with equal footing to its international counterparts,” Gune said

He then called upon all concerned parties to make earnest and concerted efforts towards the rectification and resumption of Zimbabwe’s resurgence in the global market.

In his remarks, Acting Ambassador of Zimbabwe to Malawi, M’faro Mviyo Charambira, said “the Sanctions have deterred the progress of Zimbabwe and its people. ”

He said among others, the mining and agricultural sectors have been affected by the sanctions and also the economic sanctions have resulted into the loss of over 42 Billion US Dollars over the past 18 years.
