Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital’s maternity ward known as Chatinkha has been closed.
According to director of health and social services Dr Gift Kawalazira the ward has been closed due to major electric fault evening of Monday.
Dr Kawalazira says all maternity cases are being referred to Chiradzulu district hospital.
“Blantyre district health office will support Chiradzulu with all necessary human and logistical support to enable them support their referrals,” he said
Dr Kawalazira said Chatinkha martenity may reopen on Tuesday afternoon.
