President Chakwera to deal with people sustaining corruption

As Malawi commemorates the 2020 international ant corruption day, President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has asked Malawians to join against those who wish to sustain the practice of corruption

Addressing the gathering during the commemoration of the day in Blantyre under the theme ‘Act now Fight corruption for better Malawi’ Chakwera said corruption is an evil that needs to be eliminated.

“This day is an opportunity to consolidate collective resolve to intensify the fight,” Chakwera

Speaking earlier director of Ant corruption bureau ACB Ryneck Matemba called on the public to change mindset for the country to win battle against corruption.

Matemba reminded office bearers that offices they are holding are for the public and every action taken shall be held accountable.

“People of Malawi have trust and confidence in ACB and leadership of Dr. Chakwera who they hope will fight corruption without fear or favour,” Matemba

He assured the general public that ACB is working independently.

Matemba appreciated local and international organizations for their financial and technical support

Meanwhile, UN resident coordinator Maria Torres says the country should vigorously deal corruption that has potential to ruin efforts to achieve Sustainable Development Goals, and undermine democracy as well as rule of law
