Political Parties criticized of not supporting Youths

Political parties in Malawi have been blamed for not creating good environment for youth participation in decision making.

Youth and society and Centre for youth Empowerment and civic education have noted exorbitant fees that one needs to pay to contest in various positions saying most youths are economically challenged and cannot compete with older people with money in various political parties

Speaking with radio Islam, Youth and Society YAS executive director Charles Kajoloweka and Centre for youth Empowerment and civic education executive director Lucky Mbewe have said all political parties are not ready to embrace youth participation in various positions hence affecting  governance and leadership of the country.

” YAS has engaged various political parties in Malawi to consider minimizing the fees to be paid at conventions for youth, women and marginalized group,” Kajoloweka.

Centre for youth Empowerment and civic education executive director Lucky Mbewe said if these challenges are not addressed it is a recipe for leadership crisis since the youth will be left out in political landscape.

But United Democratic Front UDF has said most youths in Malawi lack interest in joining active politics.

UDF spokesperson Yusufu Mwawa has told Radio Islam that “my party welcomes the youth to contest at its elective convention adding the fees for young people and women is half down.”
