Police cautions against insults on people with albinism

Police in the Eastern Region has warned the general public that it will arrest and prosecute anyone who may be found insulting or intimidating people with albinism.

The warning has come following the arrest of a 30 year old man who called a 1 year old baby with albinism money.

According to public relations officer for eastern region police inspector Joseph Sauka the suspect is alleged to have met the complainant who has a year old child with albinism on August 22, 2018 at Mtiku village, Traditional Authority Mlumbe in Zomba district and told her that she was keeping millions of kwacha.

“When the complainant asked as to what he meant, the suspect told her that he was referring to the baby she was carrying and this annoyed as well as threatened her and reported the matter to Chingale Police who arrested the suspect,” Sauka explained.

He has since been charged with the offense of conduct likely to cause breach of peace.

The suspect comes from Kadewere village, Traditional Authority Mlumbe in Zomba.
