PMRA MACRA in joint enforcement of requirements for Traditional Medicines adverts
Pharmacy and Medicines Regulatory Authority PMRA in conjunction with Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority MACRA have commenced joint enforcement of requirements for advertisements of traditional and complementary medicines TCM
This has been announced in a joint statement signed by PMRA director general Mphatso Kawaye and MACRA director general Daud Suleman
Kawaye and Suleman says PMRA and MACRA entered into a memorandum of understanding to oversee broadcasting of advertisements related to traditional medicine
They says effective 1st August advertisement of TCM must be submitted to PMRA for prior screening and approval before broadcasting
According to Kawaye and Suleman all running advertisements will continue until 31st July but those whose grace period is beyond that date the dealers are encouraged to submit to PMRA for vetting
MACRA and PMRA to will conduct joint monitoring exercises to ensure compliance by both dealers of TCM products and broadcasters
