Parliament must review Prison Act-CHREEA
Center for Human Rights Education Assistance and Advise (CHREAA) has asked Parliament to amend the current Prison Act which was enacted in 1956
Speaking during the Prison Photo Exhibition in Blantyre CHREAA Executive Director Victor Mhango said the prison act is detrimental to rights of prisoners as there is congestion in many prisons and lack of food
He said lives of inmates in all prisons are at stake hence proposing amendments to enjoy their human rights
Malawi Human Rights Commission which was part of the event said is in support of the proposed amendments in the current Prison Act
Speaking to Radio Islam, Victor Khwima who is Southern Region Human Rights Coordinator for MHRC asked stakeholders to work hand in hand in order to amend the constitution
