Parliament faults Machinga district hospital authorities of negligence
Parliamentary committee on health has faulted Machinga district hospital authorities for failing to maintain hygiene at cholera treatment site
Speaking after inspecting the hospital chairperson of the committee Mathews Ngwale said there is negligence among health personnel in conserving the environment hence endangering lives of patients and guardians
However Ngwale commended Ntaja community hospital authorities for their commitment in the fight against the outbreak
Responding to the matter Machinga district commissioner Lucia Chidalengwa said had instructed health authorities to urgently start cleaning services and recruit additional cleaners at the district hospital
Meanwhile, two students have died and other five tested positive for cholera in Machinga district.
Confirming the development, Machinga district Director of education Youth and Sports Joseph Chioza said the two students from Ngokwe and kayuni zones met their fate before schools were opened whereas the five who learn at Nathendo Primary School in Nkasaulo Zone tested positive when Schools opened.
Chioza said the situation has brought fear among students but authorities are monitoring the situation with keen interest to ensure that education standards are not compromised.
