Over 1.7 million Malawians With Loss of Sight
As Malawi commemorates world sight day, there are over 1.7 million people with loss of sight in the country
According to secretary for health Dr Samson Mndolo out of those people 69, 000 people were blind and very few experts to treat them
Mndolo says this is lower than world health organization minimum recommendations of 4 experts for 1 million people
He further says the ministry has organized eye camp, screening and provision of glasses in some parts of the country as part of the commemoration
The secretary for health adds that eye health should be equally available to everyone but currently inaccessible for some sectors and a luxury for those in urban areas
Mndolo calls for inclusive eye health to achieve a sustainable development goal of achieving a universal health coverage
Malawi is commemorating the day under the theme “Love Your Eyes.”
