Nsanje District Records Above 2018 Projection Of Voter Registrants.
Malawi Electoral Commission MEC has said Nsanje is the only district that has recorded above the 2018 projected figure of voter registrants.
MEC chair Justice Dr Jane Ansah disclosed during a press conference on the results of the six phases and sixth phase of voter registration.
Ansah said Nsanje has registered over 145,000 voters which is 104 percent of the 2018 projection and 115 percent against the 2014 total registered voters for the district.
“Second on the ladder is Chikwawa which registered 94 percent of the 2018 projection and 106 percent against 2014 figures,” Ansah said
MEC chair further said over 860,000 voters have registered in the sixth phase against the projected over 1 million voters representing 81 percent.
She also said they faced challenges such as an attack on two vehicles in Zomba as well as accident involving the team sensitizing communities in Makanjira, Mangochi.
“However, the free mosquito net distribution in Zomba had a positive impact on voter registration as the number of people registering almost doubled because people were required to have national ID in order to receive a mosquito net,” MEC chair explained
For the 6 phases Ansah says over 5.5 million people have been registered against over 6.8 million projected registrants.
The MEC chair has emphasized that it is impossible to create fake voter certificates.
Ansah has appealed to the Media and all electoral stakeholders to desist from negative reporting of the voter registration process.
