NRWA receives Tippers for Kamuzu Barrage from World Bank

National Water Resources Authority NWRA has received 6 tipper trucks to assist in the operation of Kamuzu Barrage in Liwonde from World Bank through Malawi Watershed Services Improvement Project MWASIP

The development comes in after the board signed the memorandum of understanding with Electricity Generation Company EGENCO to facilitate the transition takeover of the barrage by 2026

Speaking during the handover of the tippers at Liwonde Principal secretary in ministry of water and sanitation Elias Chimulambe said the 6 trucks will greatly contribute towards generation of hydropower and proper management of water resources

However he requested NWRA to find a better way of managing weeds such as recycling them for economic use

Receiving the donation NWRA Board chairperson Engineer James Mambulu stated that the board has identified ECOGEN as the company to assist in recycling the weeds by producing biogas, composite fertilizer and other products

Meanwhile Technical Head lead for planning, monitoring and evaluation at MWASIP James Kumwenda says the tipper trucks were purchased as part of a 7.9 million dollars performance based grant for NWRA aimed at improving service delivery.
