National Construction Industry Council plants trees in Liwonde Forest Reserve
National Construction Industry Council NCIC has expressed the need for construction companies to take a leading role in replenishing forests
Speaking during a tree planting exercise at Liwonde Forest Reserve NCIC acting finance director Daniel Kampondeni said the construction industry is a major beneficiary of timber hence participating in environmental conservation
Kampondeni said continued deforestation has affected construction industry such as at Kapichira hydropower plant which affects electricity generation
Speaking on behalf of Machinga district forest office Davie Mulama said they have earmarked 2 million tree seedlings in this forestry season
Mulama advised people to pay attention to effects of climate change by planting more trees
Receiving forest conservation materials chairperson of Liwonde Block committee Friday Tchunga of Mpirisi village expressed gratitude for the timely development
He however revealed his committees plans to plant 5000 trees across Liwonde forest reserve as one way of contributing to district councils plans
Among others the national construction industry council has donated wheel barrowers, hoes and slashers
