Muslims to support women aspirants in Malawi’s 2019 elections
Radio Islam listeners association says supporting female aspiring candidates in 2019 tripartite elections will help them to win the positions.
Vice president of the association Davie Daud Mpalume made the remarks during a media interaction and listenership on profiling and promotion of women in politics.
Mpalume said there is need to provide adequate resources to women for them to compete with men and win the positions women.
“Women who are educated and have skills in public speaking will easily conduct issue based campaign and win in next year’s polls,” Mpalume said
He then hailed Ministry of gender, children, disability and social welfare and UN Women for promoting and supporting aspiring female candidates.
In his remarks assistant director of gender affairs in the ministry of gender, children, disability and social welfare Joseph Kazima said “encouraging women to participate actively in politics is very vital for the country to have balanced ideas in development.”
Kazima said the ministry has lined up many activities to empower women aspirants in next year’s polls.
