Muslims distribute maize to needy people to ease food shortage

Muslims have distributed 61 bags of maize to the elderly and other vulnerable people at M’balula in Mangochi to ease food shortage they face due to covid-19 pandemic

Speaking during the ceremony vice secretary of Muslim association of Malawi in Mangochi Sheikh Abubakar Kananji said it is very important to remember needy people in times of crisis

Sheikh Kananji said what Muslims in M’balula have done is one of the teachings of Islam

“Assisting the needy is necessary because they fail to get basic needs,” Sheikh Kananji

He then urged people in Mangochi to adhere to preventive measures of covid-19

In his speech sheikh Daudi Saidi who represented senior chief Chowe said it was very fascinating to see such a small group of people doing an amazing job

Sheikh Saidi said “it is sad that rich people are not helping others.”

Vice chairman of M’balula Lemani Ngunga said they came up with the initiative of collecting maize and sharing to vulnerable people after noting that they are suffering

Ngunga appreciated the community for their understanding and contribution towards the good course

He highlighted transport challenge which they face when collecting zakaat from different areas.

Meanwhile one of the beneficiaries Irene Rashid thanked the group for helping them saying it was hard for her to provide food to the kids

Rashid asked them to assist many vulnerable people as it is difficult to have no food in the house
