As part of its contribution to Malawi’s education development the Muslim Association of Malawi says is planning to construct a university.
Speaking during meeting in Lilongwe, MAM Secretary General Alhaj Dr Twaibu Lawe, says the Association is committed to complement government’s efforts in uplifting the education sector hence the university will add to the primary and secondary schools already established.
In his remarks Minister of Education, Science and Technology, Bright Msaka, commended the Muslim community for supporting the country’s education sector.
He then promised that the ministry will facilitate coordination and collaboration with the association as it implements its education-related projects aimed at expanding access to learning.
Meanwhile Msaka, shas said that the government is making progress in implementing the National Education Sector Investment Plan (NESIP) 2020–2030.
Speaking during the official opening of a three-day Joint Sector Review meeting in Lilongwe on Tuesday, Msaka said government will focus on expanding early childhood development, implementing free and compulsory primary education, improving infrastructure, and revising curricula to include technical and digital skills.
He said also revealed governments plans to modernise teaching, by strengthening Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education, as well as improving teacher recruitment and motivation.
In her keynote address, Nigerian education expert Dr. Obiageli Ezekwesili emphasized on the need for Malawi to prioritize learning outcomes for learners, saying this would help improve education standards across the country.
The National Education Sector Investment Plan (NESIP) 2020–2030 in Malawi is a 10-year framework designed to guide the development of the education sector, building upon the foundations of the previous 2008–2017 National Education Sector Plan (NESP).
The main goals of NESIP 2020–2030 focus on Improved Equitable and Inclusive Access, Improved Quality and Relevance of Education and Enhanced Governance and Management.
