MRA cancels Tax Stamps payment
Malawi Revenue Authority MRA has cancelled the payment for tax stamps by businesspersons who import goods legally
Spokesperson of MRA Steve Kapoloma has announced the cancellation at a press briefing jointly held with presidents of Malawi First Boni Kalindo and of small scale business operators a Mr Belo
Kapoloma said that decision has been made at a meeting which officials from the three entities held on Wednesday.
He said the three groups have agreed that the tax stamps should be put on goods entering the country in order to be recognizing smuggled commodities
The MRA spokesperson said they will meet the minister of finance to hold consultations on the tax stamps
In his speech Kalindo said they have cancelled demonstrations against tax stamps but those against arrests of people, process of registration for national IDs and Malawi electoral commission operations will go ahead in Blantyre after holding consultations with relevant stakeholders
However, Kalindo said the demonstrations in Lilongwe have been suspended because they failed to hold consultations with relevant authorities in the capital city
President of small scale business operators has told the businesspersons importing their goods that they should not pay for tax stamps when entering at the borders.
He urged MRA to consider always consulting them before implementing issues that affect their businesses
