Mozambican president in Malawi
President of Mozambique Filipe Nyusi is in the country for a three day state visit
Nyusi arrived through Kamuzu international airport and was welcomed by President Dr Lazarus Chakwera
His visit comes after a meeting of senior officials of Mozambique and Malawi days ago
From the Airport Nyusi went to civic offices, visited Kamuzu Mausoleum and planted a tree at parliament among other official functions
While in Malawi he will tour railway construction among other activities
In the afternoon Nyusi officially opened SADC industrialization week aimed at revamping industrial activities which have been affected by covid-19 in the member states
Speaking during the event the Mozambican president thanked mayor of Lilongwe Juliana Kaduya for surrendering to him the keys of the city and congratulated Chakwera for being appointed chair of SADC
Nyusi said over the next five days of this week Malawi becomes the headquarters of the industrial celebration of SADC which is crucial for economic development of the region
He revealed that had brought experts from Mozambique to discuss how to improve transportation and energy production between the two countries
“It is imperative to accelerate regional industrialization process and also take advantage of energy potential and human capital,” Nyusi
Nyusi emphasized increasing imports, technological development, employment, creating markets for agricultural products, women and youth empowerment among others to fight poverty
