MOAM against government’s failure to consult on covid-19 measures

Minibus Owners Association of Malawi MOAM has faulted government for imposing covid-19 strict measures to minibus operators without consulting the association.

MOAM national chairperson Felix Mbonekera said this to Radio Islam after government announced strict measures to prevent further spread of the pandemic.

Announcing the measures, minister of health Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda said minibus operators would be engaged to reduce their capacity to two passengers per seat.

Reacting to this development, Mbonekera said Minibus operators will likely make losses if government implements the new seating capacity

He confirmed that government and other stakeholders in the fight against covid 19 did not consult them on the matter as such MOAM is worried on how they would conduct their business.

“MOAM will wait for government authorities to seat on a round table and discuss the issue before implementing the reduction of the seating capacity,” Mbonekera
