MLS Ushers in New Executive

Malawi Law Society (MLS) has elected new office bearers to lead the society for the next two years.

The new executive has been elected at this year’s annual general meeting held at Nkopola Holiday Resort in Mangochi.

According to the results, the new Chairperson is now Davis Njobvu and his Vice is McHarven Ngwata.

Francis M’mame will serve as Secretary while Kizito Kumwenda takes the role of Treasurer.

The regional chapters will be represented by Christopher Masanje for the South, William Chibwe for the North and Berney Semphani for the Central.

The delegates to the meeting also elected Grace Thindwa, Felisters Francisco and Innocent Chirwa as committee members while Bright Theu scooped the position of the disciplinary committee member.

In his acceptance speech, Njobvu said his first task in office is to address the challenges lawyers are facing in the country.

Njobvu mentioned issues of sexual harassment, inequalities and poor remunerations for the upcoming lawyers.

The new chairperson however warned unprofessional lawyers that disciplinary actions will take its course against anyone found guilty in any uncalled for actions.

Njobvu replaces Patrick Mpaka who has served for the two maximum consecutive terms.

In his farewell speech, Mpaka however appealed to the new team to work with integrity to maintain the trust of the society.

The AGM was spiced up with several activities including memorial service to late Prof Ngeyi Kanyongolo, special recognition to some individuals who have greatly contributed to the growth of the society, sports activities among others.
