Ministry of health says is in need of over 3,016,176.56 million dollars to fully implement its cholera preparedness plan.
The minister of Health and sanitation Madalitso Baloyi has revealed this during a press conference on Cholera update in Lilongwe.
According to the ministry the total cost of the plan 3, 373,124.63 and so far has 356,948.07 million dollars
The minister says so far the country has registered 11 cases in 5 districts and Kasungu leading with 5 cases followed by Neno with 3.
“First two cases were confirmed in the country on 11 December in Districts of Balaka ad Lilongwe,” says Baloyi
Meanwhile health expert Maziko Matemba notes that people’s reluctance to adhere to cholera preventive measure is contributing to recurrence of the disease every year.
Matemba said cholera can be eradicated if communities are constantly reminded and provided with accurate information on cholera prevention.
Matemba has requested government to take swift action by recruiting more health surveillance assistants that will help to address the challenge
