MERA increases Gas Prices
Malawi Energy regulatory authority MERA has increased the price of gas from 2450 kwacha to 3245 kwacha
Board chairperson of MERA Reckford Kampanje says the 32.45 percent price hike is due to depreciation of kwacha against South African Rand in November 2023 by 41.20 percent
Kampanje says the price of gas increased by 39.79 percent when compared to the price noted in the month of August last year used in determining the ruling retail price
According to the MERA board chair the authority also considered trends in petroleum products prices and changes in other economic fundamentals in local market and their impact on gas price
