MERA Approves 50.8 Percent Electricity Tariff Increase

Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority MERA has approved a 50.8 percent electricity tariff base increase from 2023 to 2027

Announcing at a press briefing executive director of MERA Henry Kachaje says the tariff has been reduced from 67.9 percent applied by Electricity Supply Cooperation of Malawi ESCOM

Kachaje says in the first year ESCOM should increase electricity with 18 percent and establish bank customer stabilizing fund

He said MERA will be reviewing ESCOM’s performance every year if not satisfied will be rejecting the tariff increase
