As the world is commemorating World Aids Day, men have been advised to be open about their health status so that they should be receiving proper health services.
This has been said by Blantyre city mayor Isaac Jomo Osman during the joint commemoration of worlds Aids day and candle light memorial at K motors in Blantyre which has been organized by National Aids Commission.
In his speech Jomo Osman cited depression and poverty as some of the factors that are leading to the spread of HIV and AIDS.
He has therefore assured that Blantyre city will make sure that cases of the disease have been reduced in the city.
On his part executive director of MANET-PLUS Lawrence Khonyongwa said the commemoration is important as they encouraged those living with HIV that having the disease is not the end of life but always abide by doctors’ instructions
Khonyongwa has asked government to put more resources on HIV/AIDS programs as the funds which they get from donors are not enough.
He has therefore pleaded with Malawians to stop discriminating people living with HIV as it is against the law.
Guest of honour a medical doctor and research Dr Noel Kayange said many men fail to go for testing at hospital and receive treatment
Dr Kayange has urged employers to allow their workers especially men to go to hospital to get medical attention
