Makanjira Development Foundation MDF says is planning to engage new government over the stalled Mangochi-Makanjira road project which remains in poor and dangerous condition.
In an interview with Radio Islam MDF executive director Osman Kennedy said there are still many unanswered questions surrounding the delayed project despite government having secured funding for the construction works.
In April this year government announced that it has secured a 30 million dollar loan from the OPEC fund for International development and Kuwait fund, in addition to 20 million dollars sourced from the Saudi Government in 2023.
However, Kennedy noted that “so far only one bridge is nearing competition while the road itself remains a death trap for road users.”
He believes that change in government has also affected the project as officials who were previously involved left office creating gaps that needs to be addressed through engagement with the current authorities.
