Malawi Defence Force MDF soldier has been killed in Democratic Republic of Congo DRC
Acting public information officer for MDF Major Emmanuel Kelvin Mlelemba says the soldier Lance corporal Chitenji Kamanga was killed on Monday 10th May while serving under UN stabilization mission
Mlelemba says Kamanga aged 28 was operating from Kiliya one of Malawi Battalion in Congo’s base and was killed when the base was attacked by unknown illegal armed Congo IAG at around 13:30 hours
He further says the remains of Kamanga will be repatriated to Malawi once UN procedures are completed
“The late Kamanga who was based at Malawi Maritime force headquarters in Monkey bay Mangochi hailed from Mbayani village TA Machinjiri in Blantyre,” Mlelemba
Meanwhile, UN Security Council has strongly condemned the attack and called on Congolese authorities to swiftly investigate this attack and bring the perpetrators to justice.
