MCP wins 4 out of 7 parliamentary seats-Unofficial results
Unofficial results show that the ruling Malawi Congress Party MCP has won four out of 7 parliamentary seats in Tuesday’s by-elections.
According to the results which have not been confirmed by Malawi Electoral Commission MCP has won in Nsanje, Lilongwe and Ntchisi but UDF in Chikwawa, UTM in Karonga and independent candidate in Zomba
However, DPP has reportedly won all two wards in Balaka and Mulanje where the polls were also held
In Nsanje North, Enock Chizuzu of MCP has beaten DPPs Esther Mcheka Chilenje and Kafandikhale Mandevana MCP candidate from Nsanje central constituency has defeated Francis Kasaila another DPP candidate.
Karonga District Returning Officer David Gondwe has announced that UTM Party candidate Felix Katwaff Kaira has won followed by MCP Daniel Mwanyongo Chitonya.
Unofficial results for Zomba Changalume constituency by-elections indicate Independent candidate, Biziwick Million as winner.
Commenting, chancellor college based political scientist has attributed the victory of MCP in four constituencies to good leadership in the party.
In his analysis, Enerst Thindwa said DPP and UDF did not fare well in the by election due to poor leadership in the parties.
Thindwa has told radio Islam that “the power struggle in DPP has cost the party’s popularity.”
According to Malawi Electoral Commission Director of Media and Public Relations Sangwani Mwafulirwa, the commission will announce the official results of the by-elections on April.
