Mangochi Town Council Appeals for Support
Mangochi Town Council has appealed for more support from community leaders saying it is losing more revenue due to lack of cooperation.
The Council’s Chief Executive Officer CEO, Funny Msimuko, made the appeal during the stakeholders meeting which centered on poor planning of the town.
Msimuko said chiefs have to play a role in forcing business people in the town and residential areas to pay their rentals saying they help the council to run the town.
“My office is falling to provide services to people expectations since they collect less revenue than their target,” Mangochi CEO said
According to her they are only collecting 20 million kwacha out of the targeted amount of 80 million kwacha per year.
She however advised the chiefs and other stakeholders to follow town council procedures when selling or sharing land for proper planning.
In remarks Group Village Kalonga commended the council for the meeting saying it has come in good times as people are not following town council plans when selling land and constructing shops and houses.
On the issue of rentals he said “as chiefs we will be joining revenue collectors in the exercise because some people do not pay since they are their friends.”
He then ask town council staff to also keep them updated in all matters of town as some people refuse to follow orders.
